Commonly mistaken for zombies, Banshees are MSC’s residing in the Gerlach Genetic Research Center underground complex, and the surrounding area in Gerlach , Nevada . Though technically physically human, these creatures scream constantly, and violently attack anything they come across. Similar to zombies in their unreasoning and violent natures, Banshees and zombies differ in many important ways. Banshees are alive, and will starve to death if they do not find food. Both eat people, but Banshees are willing to eat any animal if necessary. They do not reproduce, and the number of Banshees is slowly dwindling. The process is very slow, however, as they do not appear to die from old age, and very few humans can bring themselves to kill a banshee. Banshees appear to inspire a unique dread and unease in humans, to the point that the humans become unwilling to interact with the creature, even simply to shoot it.
Not long before the End of the World, Dr. Arthur Moore believed that if he could make a complete digital map of the physical nature of a human being, he could use his “matter reorganizer” to create copies, thus making full clones of people without having to wait through the growth process. His experiments consistently yielded screaming abominations. “Moore ’s Children” were unreasoning, screaming constantly, violent in the extreme, and had to be detained indefinitely in the GGRC. When the public became aware of the results of project, Moore was shut down immediately. The banshees already created were not killed (presumably for the same reason they are not killed today), and instead the facility was sealed and quarantined. End of the World events apparently opened the facility, and the creatures within it escaped. They are somewhat territorial, and rarely wander far from the Gerlach area.
